ISBA 2008 Standing Committees
The purpose of the Awards
Committee is to select the recipients of the ISBA Lorin A. Burt and Outstanding Boardmanship Awards presented annually at the Fall Conference. The
President appoints a chairperson for a one year term and one school board member
from each region for two year terms (eleven members). The committee meets
during August. The committee chairperson presents the awards at the Fall
Conference. The
Director of Board Services is the staff coordinator for the Awards Committee.
Written guidelines exist for use by the committee for its deliberations.

The purpose of the Nominating Committee is to select a slate of officers and directors for the Board of Directors as provided for in the ISBA Constitution and Bylaws. The President appoints a chairperson for a one year term and one school board member from each region for two year terms (eleven members). It is customary for the President to meet with the committee during its regular meeting and serve as a resource person. The committee meets during August. The committee chairperson presents the recommended slate of officers and directors to the Delegate Assembly at the Fall Conference. Official action is required by the Delegate Assembly. The Executive Director is the staff coordinator for the committee.

The purpose of the Legislative Committee is to identify, draft, and approve the proposed legislative resolutions to be presented to the Delegate Assembly during the Fall Conference. The President appoints a chairperson for a one year term and two school board members from each region for two year terms (21 members). It is customary for the Association President to meet with the committee during its regular meetings and serve as a resource person. The committee usually meets in July and August to prepare the proposed resolutions. A survey is conducted to determine the legislative interests of the membership. The committee may use the survey results as the legislative resolutions are developed. The committee chairperson presents the resolutions to the Delegate Assembly at the Fall Conference. Official action by the Delegate Assembly is required for adoption of the resolutions. The Executive Director is the staff coordinator for the committee.

The purpose of the Federal Relations Network Committee is to increase school board influence at the national level. The committee is a means of developing communications among local, state and national leaders concerning federal education issues. The objective of the FRN Committee is to assure that Indiana's federal representatives and senators are accurately informed regarding the needs and concerns of Indiana school corporations. The President appoints a chairperson and one school board member as a liaison for each congressional district and for each senator. Representatives of the committee attend the NSBA FRN Conference in Washington D.C. in February of each year. The committee meets at the call of the chairperson. An ISBA Staff Attorney coordinates the committee.
