Summer Board Member Academy

The ISBA Summer Board Member Academy is primarily a two-day in-service training opportunity for board members and superintendents to be brought up to date concerning the role, responsibilities and authority of the school board member.  The Academy will provide new board members with a comprehensive overview of their duties and will provide seasoned board members with a thorough review.

While the clinic sessions speak to important aspects of board authority and responsibility, the informal mingling with veteran school board members will allow for an exchange of concerns and ideas relevant to all school board members.

The academy begins with an Opening Session followed by breakout sessions designed to strengthen the effectiveness of each board member.  The clinic sessions are divided into two distinct tracts.  The basic concepts are aimed at first-term board members and the advanced concepts are for the veteran board members.  Participants will select one clinic from each breakout session.  Several clinics will be repeated to give participants multiple options in case of scheduling conflicts.  Clinic sessions continue the second day and the academy concludes with a buffet luncheon.
