Exemplary School Board Award

Exemplary School Board status is the highest honor a school board can earn from ISBA. For this prestigious distinction, the board must meet specific requirements that show evidence of a commitment to student achievement, continuous improvement, strategic planning, policy review, and accountability.

Exemplary criteria

To qualify for the Exemplary Board Award, each board member must be at EGA Commendable Level or greater (75 EGA points) and earn an additional 25 EGA points per year. Additionally, the school board must submit an annual portfolio documenting completion and/or validation of the following:

Board Self-Assessment
Annual Board Retreat (must be longer than four hours and must include a review of the corporation Values/Beliefs, Mission, and Vision)
Annual Review and Development of Corporation Goals (with evidence of administrative team participation)
Policy Review
Commitment to Student Achievement
Commitment to Professional Learning
Annual Superintendent Evaluation
Adoption of Board Compact or Code of Ethics

The portfolio must be submitted to ISBA by December 31 of each year. Boards that successfully complete all criteria will be notified of their achievement, with the award to be conferred at the Spring Regional Meeting.
